Nail Head Rusting - Rust from iron nails that penetrates or bleeds through the coating and stains the surrounding areas.
Nap - The lengths of fibers in a paint roller cover.
Naphtha - A strong-smelling thinner distilled from petroleum at high temperatures.
Natural Resins - Resins from trees, plants, fish and insects.
Neoprene - A synthetic rubber paint modifier which is highly resistant to oil, heat, light and oxidation.
Neutral Colors - White, off-white, light beige and gray - colors that generally go well with all other colors
Newel - An upright post supporting the handrail at the top and bottom of a stairway or at the turn on a landing. Also the main post about which a circular staircase winds or a stone column carrying the inner ends of the treads of a spiral stone staircase. Also called newel post.
Newel Cap - A top or cap for the newel post.
Newel Drop - A downward decorative projection on a-newel post through a soffit.
Newel Joint - A joint between the newel and the handrail.

Non-Union Shop - A firm whose employees are not covered by a collective bargaining agreement; an open shop.
Non-Volatile - The solid portion of a coating consisting of pigment and binder; it is the portion of the coating left on the surface after it is dry.
