The Difference Between Paints & Coatings

Basically there are three different types of paints & coatings:

Architectural Paints are formulated for normal environmental conditions and general applications. They are applied to the interior or exterior surfaces of stationary structures, commercial buildings and private residences. Architectural paints are the largest segment in the coatings industry. Primarily used by Do-It-Yourself consumers and painting contractors for application onsite in the repair, remodeling and construction of new houses.

Product Finishes are specially formulated to meet the product requirements of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). OEM coatings are applied to products during the manufacturing process. Product finishes are used in manufacturing of automobiles, metal buildings, furniture, appliances, aircraft and many more OEM sectors.

Special Purpose Coatings are formulated to withstand extreme conditions such as unfavorable or corrosive environments, heavy abrasion, water immersion, chemicals, solvents, extreme temperatures, fungi, fumes, electrical exposure and special applications. These coatings are applied by very skilled professional painters on site or in a fabrication facility. They are applied as part of new construction or as part of routine maintenance program to provide continued asset protection.
